Well. I had this interesting exchange with my mom, funny really.
I tried to end our conversation Sunday night and said "I have to go make dinner."
Her response: "You make dinner?"
Me: "I meant EAT dinner."
This is no news to anyone who knows me well, but my midweek confession is that I abhor cooking. I don't cook. Period.
Now, people then automatically assume that in my single or living alone days I was some takeout queen. That is entirely not true. I just had a very, very boring diet. I would eat the same shit every day almost. So there was a lot of greek jogurt, German bread, salads, baked potatoes and pasta with soy mince and such in my life.
When I say that I don't cook, I don't mean that I don't turn on the stove. I do. Of course. But I do the absolute minimum required, I will rather use the microwave if I can and if I just get a big salad with feta cheese and a slice of bread at night, so be it.
I have never enjoyed the process of cooking. While many people get a total kick out of the preparation and the planning (like my man) and the process, I just. don't. care. enough. Do I love good food? 100%, absolutely. I LOOOOVE to eat good food. But if you told me here are all the ingredients to make this amazing dish and here's a salad and some nice German bread? Salad and bread wins.
If someone else makes it for me, I gladly wait. Preferably with a G&T in my hand. :) Or restaurants, I love restaurants.
I am always so interested in this because of the reaction I get from women. 80% of them say things like "Oh, I have this easy recipe, let me send it to you". Jesus. It is 2014. My usual response is "No thanks. I can cook, I just don't do it by choice. I don't enjoy the process".
It's true. I don't enjoy the process. No easy recipe in the world will change that. I asked my partner the other day if maybe, once a month, I should start cooking and his response is always the same: Cooking is something he enjoys and he can do for himself.
So. There you have it. That's my midweek confession.
Do you cook? Do you enjoy it or do you feel it's part of your job to cook after a day at work?
